Cass Lake-Bena Schools will hold a special election on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to fill a school board member vacancy.

Voters residing in Bena or Winnie Portage precinct will vote at the Bena Community Center, 38 County 8, Bena, Minnesota. All other voters residing in the district will vote at Pike Bay Town Hall, 15514 State 371 NW, Cass Lake, Minnesota. No other polling places will be open. Voters must be registered or may register at the polling place on election day. Voters may also vote in advance by absentee ballot. Voters living in precincts that vote by mail in statewide elections will not receive a ballot by mail for this election.

Voters not already registered may pre-register no later than April 20, 2021 by submitting a voter registration application to the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office (address below), on-line at mnvotes.org, or may register at the polling place on election day. If registering on election day, proof of residency in the precinct is required.

To be eligible to register, voters of the district must be at least 18 years old on election day; a citizen of the United States; have resided in Minnesota for 20 days immediately preceding election day; maintain residence at the address given on the registration form; cannot be under court-ordered guardianship in which the court has revoked the right to vote; cannot have been found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote; and if convicted of a felony, the felony sentence has expired (been completed) or the sentence has been discharged.

Any eligible voter may vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballots will be available March 26, 2021 through May 10, 2021. Absentee ballot applications are available on-line at the Cass County website www.co.cass.mn.us on the elections page or may be picked up at the Cass Lake-Bena Schools District Offices.

Upon receiving a completed application, the absentee ballot will be mailed to the voter, or absentee ballots may be applied for and cast in person throughout the absentee voting period at the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office in Walker at the courthouse during normal business hours. Extended hours for in-person absentee voting will be available on Saturday, May 8 from 10 am to 3 pm, and until 5 p.m. on May 10 at the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the courthouse has limited public access. Please enter through the Law Enforcement entrance. To vote by absentee or register through the mail, voters should return completed voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications to the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office, PO Box 3000, Walker, MN 56484, or by email to cass.voter@co.cass.mn.us. Voters sending absentee ballot applications by regular mail are encouraged to mail their application by April 27, 2021 to allow for mail delivery timeframes.
