The primary function of the Probation Department is to provide supervision to all youth age 10 years and older charged with violations of law, misdemeanant and gross misdemeanant adults assigned by the District Court, as well as for juveniles on state parole residing in Cass County.
This department currently employs six full-time Probation Officers who are appointed by the Ninth Judicial District Court in collaboration with the Cass County Board of Commissioners. Other department staff includes:
Administrative Agent - Monitors non-field supervised adult clients and manages the Electronic Home Monitoring program (EHM) for Cass County. Through the use of EHM equipment the Courts can restrict the movement of clients under intensive supervision by the Court. EHM is also used as a cost effective alternative to confinement for adults and juveniles.
The department also provides investigative service, domestic violence and anger assessments, and chemical testing for all clients assigned by the District Court or by Minnesota State law. The department is mandated under Minnesota State law to be active in the prevention of juvenile delinquency by working with schools, communities, and agencies. The paramount consideration is to promote public safety and to reduce criminal/delinquent behavior by developing individual responsibility for responsible and lawful behavior.
