Veterans Transportation ProgramGeneral Information About the Veterans Transportation Program The Cass County Veterans Service Office operates a Veterans Transportation Program that is used to transport veterans to their medical appointments at the VA Medical Centers in Minneapolis, St. Cloud, and Fargo, ND. The program also provides limited transportation to the Brainerd VA Clinic (CBOC). The program receives its funding from three streams: budgeted funds from Cass County, donations from county service organizations, and from receipt of fares from passengers. Veterans are transported to their appointments by volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles and then are reimbursed for mileage by the county. We do not have vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts. Wheelchairs must be of the folding variety, and all riders must be able to move themselves from the wheelchair into the vehicle. The drivers do not have medical training and do not provide nursing or medical assistance to riders. If a rider requires any assistance, they may arrange to bring a helper, such as a family member or nurse to ride with them. Who Is Eligible to Ride? Any Cass County veteran who has an appointment at one of the above mentioned VA hospitals or clinic. We do not provide transportation to civilian hospitals or doctor appointments. We also provide rides to non-residents of Cass County on a space-available basis. There is an increased fare charged for non-residents and riders who live outside of Cass County must meet the driver at prearranged locations within the borders of Cass County. How Do I Schedule A Ride? Contact the Cass County Veterans Service Office at (218) 547-1340 Ext.
308 to schedule a ride. We will need to know which hospital the appointment
is at, along with the date and time of the first scheduled appointment.
If you are a new rider, we will also need your full name, mailing address,
telephone number, and the last four digits of your social security number. How Much Does It Cost? Each rider pays a fare to the driver at the time of the ride. Fares for each destination are listed below: VETERANS TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM FARE SCHEDULE BASIC FARE SCHEDULE (ONE VETERAN) This is the basic fare schedule for the veterans transportation program.
