Passport applications
are available from the Recorder's Department as are Passport Photo services.  The cost for Passport Photos is $12.00 per person for a set of two photos.

**PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR AIR TRAVEL**

ALL PERSONS traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport book or other valid travel documents to enter or re-enter the United States.

**PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR LAND AND SEA TRAVEL**

ALL PERSONS traveling by land and sea outside of the United States are required to present a passport book/card, or other valid travel documents to enter or re-enter the United States.

In summary, effective June 1, 2009, all U.S. citizens are now required to present a passport book, passport card, or Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) - compliant document when entering the United States.

Note:  There are many rules when traveling with an INFANT OR CHILDREN.  Please check the websites for the US Department of State and the US Customs & Border Protection for current regulations and recommendations.  It is also advisable that you contact the US Embassy in the country you are going to visit to see if they also have unique requirements when traveling with a child or children.    

Passport Services is currently processing routine applications in up to 12 weeks from the time of application and expedited service in up to 6 weeks, door-to-door. 

If you are traveling in LESS than 3 weeks and need a passport, you must make an appointment to go to the Minneapolis Passport Agency, 212 3rd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55401.  To schedule an appointment please call 1-877-487-2778

UPDATE 12/10/2020: 
Our facility resumed accepting passport applications on July 1.
Federal passport facilities are still under reduced operations and applicants should still expect possible delays in passport processing. Expedited service has resumed. 

**IMPORTANT: It is strongly recommended that members of the public wear masks when entering the Government Center. The Department of State requires masks be removed for passport photos. Please know we take passport photos in a closed-door media room and our staff will wear masks in that room for both your safety and ours. 

Due to limits on how many customers may be in the Government Center at a time, please come prepared with:
      - A completed passport application
      - Proof of US citizenship*
      - Valid photo ID*

What is the difference between the passport book and passport card?

U.S. Passport Book

  • Valid for travel by air, sea, or land
  • 5" x 3 1/2" book when closed

U.S. Passport Card
  • Valid ONLY for land and/or sea travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, or the Caribbean; NOT valid for travel by air
