Notary Commision

To become a Notary Public in Minnesota, renew your notary commission, or change your name or address on your commission, you must be approved by the Minnesota Secretary of State.  Once you have been approved, you must record your commission in your county of residence.  The fee for recording your commission at the county is $20.00.

To record your commission in Cass County by mail, you will need:

  •  Notary Commission card from the Office of the Secretary of State or the downloaded notary commission certificate.
  • $20 fee payable to Cass County Auditor-Treasurer in check or money order.
  • 2 of your signatures, notarized by another notary, on a separate white sheet of paper.  One signature will match the first, middle, and last name as it appears on your notary commission and notary stamp, and the other signature will be in the style you normally sign your name and in which you will notarize documents.  These two signatures may or may not be the same.

To record your commission in Cass County in person, you will come to the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office and bring with you:

  •  Notary Commission card from the Office of the Secretary of State or the downloaded notary commission certificate.
  • $20 fee in cash, check, or money order.   Make checks payable to the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer.
  • Valid identification such as a driver’s license.
