Marriage License Information

Fees and Instructions
The fee for a marriage license is $115.00 without premarital education and $40.00 with a completed Statement of Premarital Education form. (For requirements, see the Statement of Premarital Education.) The marriage license fee is non-refundable and is payable in cash or check only.  Credit cards are not accepted.

A marriage license may be obtained in any county in Minnesota, and may be used in any county in Minnesota. The record of marriage will only be on file in the county in which the application was made.

Both applicants should apply in person. However, if one of the parties cannot appear in person, a supplemental application will be given to the party appearing before us to be completed by the non-appearing marriage applicant. There is a five (5) calendar day waiting period. The license must be used within six (6) months from date of issuance.

Applicants are asked to arrive at the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office by 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS)

MOMS is a statewide web application used to search all marriages in Minnesota.  Marriage records are maintained by the county which sold the marriage license, not the county where the marriage took place.  This website is helpful in determining which county is the official custodian.  Questions and concerns about specific records should be directed to the custodial county.
