The County Attorney is an elected official and is responsible for the prosecution of all adult felonies, most gross misdemeanors and misdemeanor violations committed in Cass County, and also presents cases to the grand jury for consideration.

Criminal matters are reviewed for prosecution after they have been investigated by various law enforcement agencies.

In addition, the office prosecutes all juvenile matters, including delinquencies, facilitates mental and chemical dependency commitments, child support collection, and some guardianships.

The office is responsible for various statutory duties and most civil matters that affect the county, including advising the county board, department heads and employees on employment issues, zoning matters, and contracts.
